Uniden America Corporation, the North American subsidiary of Japan-based Uniden Corporation, manufactures and markets wireless consumer electronic products including cordless telephones, business telecommunications systems, Bearcat® scanners, FRS/GMRS radios, marine radios and other wireless personal communications products. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Uniden sells its products through dealers and distributors throughout North, Central and South America. Their FRS/GMRS two way radio range includes about 10 radios, with ranges from 5 up to 28 miles. We will present some popular Uniden radios here. Uniden GMR535-2

This is Uniden’s entry level model, with just the right amount of features for the beginner user.

You get 5 miles of range, FRS/GMRS support and a screen which displays the channel and battery strength. The keypad can be locked and it features and automatic channel scanner. A belt clip is also included in the package. As you see, not many bells and whistles here, but just enough functionality for basic communication at a price of just $11.37 USD per piece at Amazon. Charger not included.

Uniden GMR1838-2CK

This is a mid-range product from Uniden, with very decent features and an affordable price.

It provides a much better range than the GMR535, namely 18 miles. It supports FRS and GMRS and has 99 privacy codes. The LCD screen is backlit and provides channel and battery strength information. VOX is supported with an optional accessory. The automatic channel scanner and channel monitor will do all the work for you. A belt clip is included, as is a dual drop-in charger with NiMH batteries. Thanks to the headset jack, external headset can be connected.

Uniden GMR2872-2CK

This is one of Uniden’s best radios and it’s loaded with tons of useful features.

The GMR2872-2CK is the industry’s first fully submersible GMRS/FRS two-way radio. Rated JIS-7, it will withstand being submerged 3 feet for 30 minutes with no damage. Plus, if you do drop it in the pool or lake, it floats. The GMR2872-2CK is also packed with all the industry-leading features you’d expect from Uniden, including Direct Call, Call ID, Auto Channel Change, 6,270 channel combinations, 28-Mile maximum range, backlit display, and more. The PowerBoost key allows you to increase the transmission power (within regulation limits, of course) and the missed call indicator is also a nice feature. Additionally, you can talk directly to just one member of your group and automatically change the channel for all users to avoid interference.
